The Garrett Bardsley Foundation
Update 2019-10-20: Volunteer search concluded
Dear volunteers,
With the recent weather in the search area we are unable to continue the volunteer search effort. Our hopes and prayers are with Carl and his family in this difficult time.
UPDATE: Saturday search starting at 9am
Update 10/18 12:30pm: We will be doing a volunteer search on Saturday (10/19) at 9am.
If you can come please register here if you have not already.
Notes for the Saturday search:
- We will probably only search in the morning (until maybe 1pm or 2pm) because the weather is supposed to get worse
- Due to the above, if you can arrive around 9am that would be super! But we will appreciate whatever you are able to do
- Find the Garrett Bardsley Foundation near the Summit County command post, which is at the intersection of forest roads 58 and 307. See this Google Maps link
- Please see the other general notes below from the Friday search
UPDATE: Friday search starting at 9am
Update 10/17 8:20pm: We will be doing a volunteer search on Friday (10/18).
If you can come please register here if you have not already.
We can use all the help we can get!
Details for the Friday search:
- Update: There is 2-3 inches of new snow at the search location. We ask that you please be safe and come prepared for this inconvenience!
- Find the Garrett Bardsley Foundation near the Summit County command post, which is at the intersection of forest roads 58 and 307. See this Google Maps link
- Come prepared for inclement weather (ponchos, rain gear, etc)
- There is not a lot of room for large vehicles (trailers, etc)
- Bright clothing would be good to bring for visibility during hunting season
- We will start at 9am and end before dusk (around 4-5pm).
- If you can't make it by 9am that is OK, we will love to have you as early as you can make it. 3pm is the absolute latest for arriving.
- Bring an ID (e.g. drivers license)
- Bring food and water
- Bring a GPS if you have one
- We should know by around noon on Friday whether we will be doing a Saturday search
- Children must be at least 16 years old and be accompanied by a parent
- We need ground pounders in good physical condition. Searching will involve rugged hikes
- No horses, 4-wheelers or similar for this search
- No drones please - they will interfere with Search and Rescue operations
- No pets please - we don't want to interfere with search dogs
